Does my no-claims discount count in Spain?

We get this one almost every week. Short answer: bring the certificate and we will try. Here is the longer one.

In Spain it runs on the certificado de siniestralidad

Spanish companies do not work with German bonus classes or British NCD years as such. They look at the bonificación por no siniestralidad, and the basis for it is the certificado de siniestralidad: your previous insurer certifies how long you were insured and which claims were reported in that time.

Your previous insurer has to issue it

If your old policy is a Spanish one, you are entitled to that certificate, and since Ley 5/2025 there is a deadline in the law itself: fifteen days from your request. You do not have to wait for the renewal.

What if the certificate comes from abroad?

Those exist too. In Germany it is called Bescheinigung über den Schadenfreiheitsrabatt and sometimes sits inside the cancellation letter; in the UK it is your proof of no claims discount. Three things need to be on it: whose policy it was, which period it covers, and whether claims were reported. Ask for it while the contract is still running or has just ended, later it takes longer.

Nobody here promises you a percentage

How much of it goes into your Spanish premium is decided by the tariff, not by us. What we do: we file it with the application and quote you the price with and without, so you see the difference before you sign.

If you have nothing at all

Then you start on the base tariff. That works, it only costs more at the beginning. For international residents we quote on the Allianz Expat tariff, and for many clients that matters more than the discount itself.

What this means for you

  • Ask your previous insurer for the certificate before you cancel.
  • Check that it shows the policyholder, the period and any claims.
  • On a Spanish policy the legal deadline is fifteen days.
  • Bring it in and we will quote you with and without the discount.
  • Without a certificate you can still insure, you just start on the base tariff.
