Your Allianz health policy changed in January — and it does more than you may realise
There was a letter, a new card and a new app. And still, most people file the policy away and never look at it again. Here is what changed, in two minutes.
What happened on 1 January
Allianz entered into an agreement with ASISA, and since 1 January 2026 ASISA provides the medical network for Allianz Salud. You are still an Allianz customer: your policy, your cover and your contact are unchanged. What changed is the network of doctors and hospitals you can use. It applied straight away to new policies and to those already running, and on its own it did not trigger any premium increase.
What you gained without paying more
According to Allianz, the network now holds more than 51,000 medical professionals and around 2,000 clinics. On top came digital services that did not exist before: medical chat and video consultation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with doctors who can even order tests without you leaving the house, and psychological support. All of it sits inside the policy; nothing has to be bought separately.
What did NOT change — and this matters
Pre-existing conditions you declared are handled exactly as before; the change of provider does not reopen them. Waiting periods you have already served stay served — you do not start again from zero. Reimbursement, if that is your type of policy, is still handled by Allianz itself. And the authorisation phone number has stayed the same. If you only hold Allianz Dental, none of this affects you: dental runs through a separate specialist partner.
The one thing you really should check
A new medical network means some doctors join and some drop out. If you have been seeing the same specialist for years, it is worth confirming that they are still in before you book. And if they are not, you find another one — that is what the network is for. This is where most of our calls come from, and it is the easiest call to deal with: you give us the name of the doctor or the clinic, we tell you whether they are still listed. You do not have to fight your way through a search tool.
If you are thinking about switching
This one is mainly for anyone who already has health cover with another company. If you provide the original policy and the last paid receipt, all waiting periods are waived when you take out the new one — with two exceptions: pregnancy stays at one month and childbirth at eight months. Put differently, the waiting time you have already earned with your current insurer does not go to waste. Without a policy in force, the standard waiting periods from the terms apply.
What this means for you
- Since January, 24-hour video consultation and medical chat are included in the policy at no extra cost.
- Declared pre-existing conditions and waiting periods already served remain in place; nothing restarts.
- Before your next appointment, check that your usual doctor is still in the network — call us and we will look.
- If you only hold Allianz Dental, none of this affects you.
- Switching from another company waives the waiting periods, except pregnancy and childbirth.
